Fractions

A fraction is a division waiting to happen: 3/4 means "split into 4 equal parts, take 3". Almost everything in this topic follows from that one idea.

Four lessons cover what you actually need: taking a fraction of a number (3/4 of 28), equivalent fractions and simplifying (6/8 = 3/4), turning fractions into percentages (3/5 = 60%), and adding or subtracting fractions. Every practice answer is a whole number, so you can type it straight in.

Method 1 · Level 1

How to Find a Fraction of a Number

Divide by the bottom, multiply by the top: 3/4 of 28 → 28 ÷ 4 = 7 → 7 × 3 = 21.

Method 2 · Level 1

Equivalent Fractions and Simplifying

Multiply or divide the top and the bottom by the same number and the value does not change: 3/4 = 9/12 (×3), and 18/24 = 3/4 (÷6).

Method 3 · Level 2

Fractions to Percentages (and Back)

Make the denominator 100: 3/5 = 60/100 = 60%. Know the key ones by heart: 1/2 = 50%, 1/4 = 25%, 1/5 = 20%, 1/10 = 10%.

Method 4 · Level 2

How to Add and Subtract Fractions

Same denominator: add the tops, keep the bottom (2/7 + 3/7 = 5/7). Different denominators: first rewrite both over a common denominator (1/2 + 1/4 = 2/4 + 1/4 = 3/4).

Tip: The golden rule: multiply or divide the top by a number, do the same to the bottom, and the fraction keeps its value.
