Division feels hard only when you attack it head-on. The mental approach converts division into doubling or quadrupling — operations your brain already owns.

Three conversions cover the cases that actually come up: ÷5, ÷25, and the halving chains ÷4 and ÷8.

How to Divide by 5 in Your Head

To divide by 5, double the number and divide by 10: 340 ÷ 5 → 680 ÷ 10 = 68.

To divide by 25, multiply by 4 and divide by 100: 1,600 ÷ 25 → 6,400 ÷ 100 = 64.
