The 9 times table

The full 9 times table

  • 9 × 1 = 9
  • 9 × 2 = 18
  • 9 × 3 = 27
  • 9 × 4 = 36
  • 9 × 5 = 45
  • 9 × 6 = 54
  • 9 × 7 = 63
  • 9 × 8 = 72
  • 9 × 9 = 81
  • 9 × 10 = 90
  • 9 × 11 = 99
  • 9 × 12 = 108

The easiest way to learn the 9 times table

Multiply by 10, then subtract the number once: 9 × 7 = 70 − 7 = 63.

From 9 × 1 to 9 × 10, the digits of every answer add up to 9 (63: 6 + 3 = 9), and the tens digit is one less than the number you multiply by: 9 × 7 = 63.

Finger trick: hold up ten fingers and fold down the 7th. The fingers to its left (6) are the tens and the fingers to its right (3) are the ones: 63. It works from 9 × 1 to 9 × 10.

Which facts are really new?

Swapping the order does not change the answer (9 × 3 = 3 × 9), so if you already know the tables up to 8, only these 4 facts are new: 9 × 9, 9 × 10, 9 × 11, 9 × 12.

The pattern in the last digits

The last digits of 9 × 1 up to 9 × 10 are 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0. Then the pattern starts again.
